Every sign deserves proper attention
KNOW WHEN TO CONSULT
Visual symptoms do not always manifest in the same way in children. Here are the main signs that may warrant a pediatric ophthalmological examination.
01
Screening anomaly
Pediatricians and schools are often the first to detect an abnormality. An abnormality found during screening should always be investigated, even in the absence of any complaint.
04
Progressive myopia
Myopia can develop and progress throughout the growth period. This is why regular monitoring is essential for all myopic children and adolescents up to the age of 21.
02
Strabismus
An eye that deviates, even intermittently and occasionally, may be a sign of strabismus or another eye condition, and should be confirmed by an orthoptic assessment.
05
Headaches
While a pediatrician should always be consulted in the case of new or intense headaches, the diagnosis of chronic headaches may involve, in particular, an ophthalmological examination.
03
Difficulty seeing
It's important to assess the vision of a child who complains of having trouble seeing the board. But sometimes, certain signs are just as telling: getting too close to objects, squinting and blinking a lot...
06
In infants
Any unusual sign should be mentioned to the pediatrician, but particular attention is paid to chronic tearing, strabismus, and pupillary asymmetries.

The examination of vision and eye alignment involves a series of small games with the orthoptist.
03
Measure
Precise measurement of eye correction may require an examination with drops: cycloplegia.
04
Examine
During the medical consultation, the doctor performs a targeted examination of the eyes under a microscope.
05
Explain
The doctor then explains the diagnosis and any recommended treatments or follow-up.
